Updated: Feb 05, 2026, 06:05 PM

Dubai showcases its intention to expand green and blue infrastructure across the city by unveiling an impressive long-term roadmap at the World Governments Summit. This ambitious and significant expansion will roll out projects valued at over $1.09 billion as a part of the emirate’s broader strategy to enhance its residents’ quality of life.
To highlight, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, reviewed the Dubai Blue and Green Infrastructure Roadmap 2030 launched by Dubai Municipality during the summit, accompanied by senior leaders and officials. The expansion will focus on boosting urban sustainability and climate resilience by 2030, supporting ongoing Dubai urban sustainability initiatives and the city’s long-term Dubai climate resilience strategy
The Dubai Municipality roadmap 2030 details a comprehensive and strategic vision to develop a balanced, integrated urban ecosystem. This expansion intends to position nature as a core component of Dubai’s long-term growth and liveability, whilst also meeting the evolving needs of residents and tourists alike.
The framework is designed by taking several urban planning conditions into account, and has since embedded sustainability across public facilities. These include afforestation, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, beaches, parks, waterfronts, and advanced recycling and treatment systems, reinforcing Dubai’s global leadership in sustainable, people-focused city planning and supporting wider Dubai urban sustainability initiatives
The 2030 expansion plan aims to strengthen adaptability, long-term growth, and resilience while supporting public health and wellbeing. By taking these meticulous and clearly defined steps, the roadmap will transform everyday urban life, especially by integrating nature directly into the city’s infrastructure by 2030, in line with Dubai urban planning sustainability goals and the broader Dubai sustainable city vision
In particular, this nature-focused approach will include the planting of about 1.5 million trees over five years, adding 120 new parks covering nearly 3 million sq. m., and delivering over 45 beautification and landscaping projects, supporting Dubai parks and green spaces expansion under ongoing Dubai environmental sustainability projects In addition, over 200 sports and recreational spaces will also be installed, connected through integrated green networks.
The expansion will also ensure repositioning of beaches and waterfronts to work well with the new plan, as these features are crucial for Dubai’s climatic, ecological, recreational, and social systems. So far, over 15 major development projects are planned to revitalise coastlines, and three new beach destinations will make their debut each year, supporting the Dubai blue infrastructure strategy
Furthermore, to expand public access to natural environments and promote active lifestyles, the Dubai Municipality will be increasing beach amenities, facilities, and services by 400%, expanding public beach capacity by 150%, and extending beachfront cycling, jogging, and walking tracks by 285%, in line with the emirate’s public beach development master plan, while complementing Dubai public parks development
Every move defined within this expansion aligns with the Public Parks and Greenery Strategy as well as the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. Director General of Dubai Municipality, Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, said:
“Through this roadmap, Dubai Municipality is advancing a flexible, inclusive, and long-term urban model that positions beaches, parks, and public spaces as integrated infrastructure assets, making Dubai more vibrant, attractive, and liveable for all. Our goal is for Dubai to be a city built for people, growing in harmony with nature – a resilient and sustainable city that delivers the highest quality of life for current and future generations.”
Additionally, Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita sheds light on how Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a leading global city shaping standards for urban sustainability, noting that the emirate actively shares its integrated city-making model internationally. He adds:
“Dubai Municipality remains committed to enhancing quality of life across the emirate by developing a balanced urban environment founded on an integrated, human-centric approach that aligns economic development with environmental stewardship and community wellbeing.”
In conclusion, the roadmap fully supports the city’s precisely defined sustainable development goals, while encouraging active lifestyles and social interaction, strengthening climate resilience, and ultimately, reinforcing Dubai’s mission to become one of the best cities in the world to live and work.
